Alexis Bledel disappointed with Gilmore Girls revival

Gilmore Girls fans were shocked when the recent Netflix revival ended with a huge — and very unexpected — twist for main character Rory Gilmore.

But it wasn't just the cliffhanger that got the Twitterverse buzzing. Many longtime fans of the show were also surprised with the turn Rory's life had taken, as the Chilton valedictorian, Yale graduate, and Obama campaign embed was seen greatly struggling with her career in her early 30s.

And as it turns out, Alexis Bledel herself was disappointed with Rory's aimlessness, too.

Rory was always at the top of her class and a natural scholar, whom most characters foresaw great success for.

However, in Netflix: A Year in the Life, Rory is without a full-time job and struggling to obtain freelance assignments. She moves back home with her mom and, with her career floundering, takes up an unpaid position editing Stars Hollow's local paper.

The one journalism assignment she manages to snag — without a promise for payment — she messes up royally by falling asleep during an interview and sleeping with another source.

'I had told [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] that I hoped Rory would end on a high note after all of her hard work,' Alexis, 35, said during a panel for Deadline's Emmy Contenders this weekend, according to Entertainment Tonight. 'I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.'

'I was hoping that we would see that she had lived an interesting life and had been fulfilled up until this point where her grandfather dies and [she] comes back home.'

Though she clearly wasn't thrilled with Rory's lack of career access, she has found peace with Rory's surprise pregnancy, which came as a complete surprise.

'It certainly wasn't the ending I expected,' she said. '[But Amy] knew what reaction she was going to get out of the audience. She's delighted by throwing everyone a curveball. I knew that's what she wanted and I trusted her.'

Rory reveals that she is pregnant during the show's final scene, telling her mom before the credits roll.

The identify of the father hasn't been confirmed, though many fans speculate that it is on-again off-again boyfriend Logan Huntzberger.

'It took me a minute, but ultimately, I loved it,' she added.

Since the series was added to Netflix, fans have puzzled over the abrupt ending, wondering if the cliffhanger indicates there will be another season.

To that end, Lauren Graham, 50 — who played Rory's mom Lorelai — is still unsure.

'What can we do that is satisfying, and worth continuing, and gratifying to the people who care so much about it?' she said at the panel. 'I don't know if there is a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.'

'Now it has become a dialogue with the fans of the show; if it all existed in a vacuum I would play that character until my dying day,' she added, according to Deadline
